ARC Intercooler Finish

I have been running a R33 Skyline FMIC for the last years, it's always been sprayed matt black, for looks more than anything else really.

There was a debate some time ago, was it better to have it sprayed black so it disapated heat better or was it better to just have a polished Ali finish, with the theory being the cooler wasn't covered in a paint barrier and it would possibly get cooler from the air passing through it.

I have just bought a used Skyline R33 ARC FMIC but it really needs some cleaning up before it goes on.

So do I clean it up and leave it polished, which will start to corrode eventually or do I spray it matt black again.

As a side note I cannot beleive that all the coolers bought and fitted that look just like a polished finish haven't got some sort of clearcoat laquer on them, otherwise there would be loads of dirty looking corroded ali coolers all over the place.

Matt black mate, sod the corrosion business.

I wouldn't have thought the colour would have made enough difference that you could feel a performance change, may be im wrong though :?

What kind of cutting do you require for one of the R33 IC to fit?

black will get rid of heat best but what u think looks best lol

My Blizt f/m/i/c has not been coated and does not rust.

But then again my car does not get driven :lol:

btw Steve, i would keep it as a polished finish as how many people are going to get close enough to see if it has any imperfections on it? Is your front bumper meshed? Also, as previousley said, would you really notice the difference if it was painted or not?

i have an r33 gtr i/c and its matt black.looks a bit more stealth in my opinion.

my GT-R cooler is matt black

the arc one however does look alot better in stock ARC form witha shiny finish with ARC in black

matt black painted dissipates heat faster than silver despite the layer of paint.

bugger all in it though.

tie a red nose to your grille and you've outweighed the difference.
