Just some info on them please! obviously its a boost controller but does it have other functions- i.e boost gauge, temperature readings ect
Also, can i fit it (being a mechanic) or is it a dealer trained jobbie that also needs setting up on roller or whatever?
How is it fiited?
thanks for your help!

It does a few things.

shows boost, revs/duty cycle of injectors, throttle percentage, speed in kph and probably some other things i've forgotten. Only ever use mine for boost.

It will show, 1,2,3 or 4 of these at anyone time, although in gauge mode will only show 2. Can be read as numbers, a little graph or as dials.

Can give different boost for different gears and will give you 3 boost settings, one set by actuator, an A setting of your choice and B setting of your choice. Can set up an overboost setting 8) also has a playback facility i think.

Is quite simple to wire in but can be a pain to set up just depends how clever you're with these sorts of things, the manual tells you how to do it and it can be done with 2 of you out on the road, one driving, one button pressing 8)

:D Hi Chris,if you go onto the Apexi web site you can down load the manuals, and they will give you a step by step guide,so that you can see whats involved and make your own mind up as to wether you can fit it yourself or not :D

cheers for your help guys!
Not ass licking or nothing but i have only just joined R'oc but your turning out to be a helpfull bunch-im well impressed!. I'll tell you what, i cant imagine what it would belike to find info/help/quides on fixing/ moding the R ( being jap and not many peolpe knowing what the fook it is!!) without the INTERNET!!

lol
p.s joining wires to ecu meaning splicing into harness wires i assume!
if so do you get or can you get wiring instructions for specific cars or will i need a wiring diagram!?
Cheers again chumz.......

ye, it comes with a bit of an instruction manual, think most of its in japanese though :?
You can download one from apexi's U.S site though, it has a diagram of the GTI-R ecu, and tells you exactly where to splice the wires, virtually no set up needs doing (although i did faff about with mine for a couple of weeks after installing it  )
The hardest thing is knowing how to get the wires from the engine bay to the ecu (i used the grommet for the ecu harness), and also where to fit the pressure sensor takeoff (the left hand nipple on the inlet manifold is favorite), oh, and where to fit the controller itself (it's a bit bigger than you might think from the pictures).
As for what it does, kieron pretty much covered it, except, it doesnt show speed in kph, it shows it in whatever your speedo does (it just says kph on the screen), also, the most usefull functions that it has (although you may never use them), is the abillity to increase/decrease boost in different gears (usefull for reducing wheelspin in fwd cars), and the ability to increase/decrease boost for a given rev range (this allows you to run more boost in the mid range than at the top end, which is obviously safer).
It also has a peak hold which is good to see what your boost is doing, as is the 60 second playback (tells you if your boost is dropping off at any point)
The different displays are actually quite nice to have, i usually just have it on the boost gauge, but sometimes its good to know what your max revs/speed  was

I got mine fom ebay :? brand new from user 5400rpm, complete with an english manual & warranty. £250 + £30 postage from Malaysia.

5400rpm's a business & seems to be pretty good. Delivery was quick.

The wiring is fine if you're confident with electrical gubbins, and the manual gives car-specific diagrams...whole thing took me about 3hrs to install.

Does the car have to be tuned afterwards on a rolling road etc??
I wasn't sure wether to go down this route or get Powerstation to fit a unichip with an extra electronic boost controller which they said would be better!?
My car is deliberately running low boost until it is properly set up to run something like 1 bar.
Any advise? :?:

P.s. Sorry to hijack the question Chris, hope this is useful information for u too mate

I'd go the Unichip and boost control module route. In the end you will pay at least £300 for the AVC-R and I think you can get the Unichip for about £550 inclusive. Which means you will be running safer with better fuelling, ignition and boost maps. This will not only give you more ultimate power, torque and driveability but, much better mpg, saving you money in the long run.
This all depends on how far you want to go with the car though  Oh, and i've got the AVC-R but, will look at getting the Unichip in the near future.
