Just a thought, but has anyone fitted a water spray system for top mounted intercoolers.

I know some rex's come out with this setup. And since I live in Australia where the temp can get to 40-50 deg in summer I thought this might be a good idea.

I didn't think it would be too hard to setup some sort of windscreen washer system under the bonnet running from a different water resevour. With a switch on the dast to turn on and off when needed.

what do you guys recon.

I know over there in Pommyland you don't know what a real summer is like

But your input would be appreciated.

Cheers

No it's been done over here as well, despite the shite weather making it useful for about 3 days of each year.

It's done exactly as you've said, a windscreen washer jet and another reservoir. The only thing to be careful of is making sure you seal off the plug channel on the cam cover, just in case any water doesn't evaporate and ends up going down the plug holes. You can make an aluminium cover for that easily enough though.

What you need to be careful of is how much water you spray. You are only after a very fine mist, not gallons of water. It works on a similar principle to water injection and you won't get the sort of pressures needed for that with a windscreen washer pump. But, you won't have to worry about hydrolock with an intercooler spray
Trial and error will be the best way of doing it, just find the smallest nozzle you can get water through with the pump you are using and try to get it to mist, not spray.

you can use a hobbs pressure switgh to turn the system on.
it is fully adjustable and for example you can set it to 7psi, and once 7psi of boost are acheive, the system will go on!
you can find them on ebay at low cost.
i have one and want to use it for my water spray even if i have a front mount.
the best solution is to use a pump with big pressure and a very small nozzle...you don't nned loads of water...just small stream...this will dissipate heat better.
the best way to do it is to find a car that has washable headlights and taking all the parts...pump, reservoir,nozzle..this have generally a very fine mist...
hope this helps

I thought if its good enough for a Subaru, its good enough for my R...

When I eventually get it done i will let you know.
