Will second the Spa comment there. Im heading there at the end of the month with a couple of mates from the MLR. Usually do both but as Fubar Andy says the ring is not as good as everyone makes out so will save some £ as only doing Spa.
But its good to say you have been around there.
Unfortunately im not taking my R though, to worried it won't survive! Will have to live with going round in Evo's and Scoobs!! how depressing!
I am hooked on the ring and even if it is a matter of opinion it is a great challenge for me.
Spotted an R in the pit area on my last visit 3 years ago.
Having much experience with different tracks and hillclimbs this is something else.
I am going there next week to spend 5 days with my R on track and I have been preparing
for weeks to get the right parts and setup for my car.
Info on the car here: http://www.gtiroc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46224&page=11
There will be onboard footage, film and a magazine cover from the trip.
Not quite what I would call value for money, your not going to learn the track that well in such a small amount of laps and to get at a decent level would cost quite a bit more.
Not only that, you have the issue of insurance not being valid when you go around the ring, however you may look at alternate companies that will cover you in case of incident since its classed as a public toll road (yet we know most people will run without insurance)
You have to contend with busses full of OAP's having a trip round, bikers and other hot-head petrol junkies giving it the full works to make it round within 10 mins.
I'm not saying I had a bad experience with the NBR, but when I compared it to other tracks and major racing locations it’s not all its cracked up to be.
If you are a petrol head then its worth going to experience it, but I think after all the hype, top gear coverage and other trash that people watch, its nothing that spectacular and I wouldn't be bothered if I never went again...
Spa Francorchamps on the other hand is (in my eyes) far superior for enjoyment, thrills and value for money. You can have over 100 laps of Spa for around £170-250, get to know the track and if you do have an accident your not on a public road so there are less issues than the NBR
