34 fault code if DET sensor detects knock ?!

To be honest the Y bracket i found to be very easy to undo and move to one side whilst i fiddled with the knock sensor. I did remove the brake master cyclinder though, just means you need to bleed the brakes which is no big job really.

You will be able to visually inspect the wiring from the underneath of the car and check the sensor whilst your there however as we all know these little gremlins only make themselves apparent when you really start to move the wiring and components about so maybe a removal is required anyway.

If you are able to source the sensor cheap enough id probably replace it anyway tbh.

Ant.

P.s. Arms like mr tickle are very useful lol

Ant,

Did you remove the bolts for the 'Y' bracket from above or underneath ? Or both ?

Once I get it off, it's staying off so, I'm not worried about putting it back on.

I was looking at the 'how to' Scott linked and it all seems fine, except the removal of the oil filter. Really, that's the job I don't want to do. As my downpipe and elbow aren't stock, I think the flange is a little lower down so, that should be easier to get to. Having said that though, I'd still rather go it from above, if that's a possibility.

Cheers

I actually got mine off without removing anything using a couple of long reach 1/8 drive extension bars and a knuckle joint. Was a bit like the "golden shot" and much patience was required... and a pillow.
Then I was fcuked though. The sensor stayed up there attached to the wire and if I had managed to remove it from the wire, I do not think I could have got the new one back on using that method.
In the end, I took the car to Nissan for an MOT and they put the new sensor on.
Oh to have a proper ramp.

Yes i attacked it from both above and below. With the master cylinder off it was easy to reach around for the top bolts.

I had to un bolt the front pipe and push it to the side, i didnt want to remove it completely as i have the 4 point lower brace and couldn't be bothered removing that to get the front pipe off to get my arm in, so instead i found new angles for my elbow lol.

Probably the simplest of jobs, just niggley as feck because of its location etc.

i have the same code coming up but it says it is present '0' times at startup ?
I also seem to have no power loss though and the car runs fine.

You need a new sensor then bud !

I didn't experience any noticable side effects when my knock sensor went. It just kept putting the code up !

my car ran like crap when i had fault code 34, changed the sensor a few weeks back and all is well. the old knock sensor was in a bit of a sorry state and the plastic was all cracked

Cheers chaps. I have removed my Y-Bracket when i put engine back in so i'm guessing it wont be hard to get to the DET sensor just lying under the car and reaching up?

yeh you will be able to get to it underneath reaching up with a couple of extensions. you can only hope that the bolt isnt seized

Just thought I would say that some of the above is wrong.

If the ecu detects knock the ECU will change to the knock map, if the ecu still detects knock it will then report a fault. If the ECU has a problem with the knock sensor/wiring it will also show the knock fault and remain in the knock map. It will never enter limp with this condition.

It doesn't retard the ignition by 6 deg. It jumps to an entirely separate knock map, (and knock fuel map), this is the difference between the ign map and the knock ign map (ign map - knock ign=)

Fuel when in the knock map is also altered, this is approximate AFR points different positive values would be richer and negative leaner.

If it were me I would clear the error codes, and see if it came back without over-boosting.

Micra Ed, Can you post up the Std ECU`s actual maps?

anyone knows if the pin 27 of the ecu should give how much voltage?
I noticed that without a knock sensor connected it should give 5v. i'm having a problem that my pin 27 of the ECU not give voltage at all. anyone can help me?
