Or get some second hand one and get them machined to the size you want.

Is it in bits at the mo?

Have you had new valves put in?

No it's not in bits and no I havent had new valves put in m8.

The engine is tapping quite loudly - I was just pricing things up so I know what I was letting myself in for!

Everyone I have asked has said it needs re-shimming.

Nissan seem to think it doesn't have shims

Oh, ok.

The only way it will be the shims is if:

1.The cams have worn!! (seen it on 8v engines but never a dohc)
2. Its had a rebuild and not been shimmed properly

Best bet is find out what the shim clearance is, wip of the rocker cover, and check the shim gaps.

better get yourself some wire gauges as std feelers are no good you have to check them while hot so you have to be quick stripping it down
