Dash matts

Hmm it could look pretty good if the carpet material is decent quality, or it could look like an old biddy's car if it's not.

I don't think you need them in the UK. - Mainly they stop the plastic cracking in the harsh sunlight (or hide the cracks if it's already too late). I'm pretty sure my little brother has one in his N15 Pulsar GLi; they're pretty common on older cars because it's a lot cheaper than replacing the dash.

Objectively, I guess they also have anti-reflective qualities and things are less likely to slide off them... but equally I find they do tend to slide off the dashboard (or you have to stick them down and you're left with patches where it was attached - "non-slip velcro fitting").

On the balance; I personally wouldn't bother with them, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't.

I''ve been working out in the Persian gulf for the last year or so, these things are all over the place except out there they have tiger skin designs with tassles etc hanging of them! hideous! should never be fitted in any sane persons car!

have you bought yours yet stu? ;-)

Are you polishing your dashboards or something? I really don't get that much glare off mine; the biggest issue is that things like radar detectors slide off it all the time.

That makes sense: harsh sunlight, protect the dashboard or hide any cracks that have already formed. - Not really for the European market.

I forgot that you're also less likely to burn yourself on them than a dashboard that's been in the sun all day long.

Have them a lot here in asia too ... They tend to load a lot of tat on the dash & it protects dash from the damage of direct sunlight. In the UK I would not bother, flocking kind of looks interesting but against standard door cards looks wrong & it soon marks & looks old ...

Or i could just cover it like i did in 2 of my other pulsars
I seemed to remember you having done this and was waiting for you to link the pictures when flocking was mentioned, looks good and probably better and more resilient than flocking. What material did you use, what did you use to clean the dash plastic first, did you take any pictures at other stages through the job ?

I used simoniz dashboard cleaner, it strips back everything on the dash and leaves it dull, then I used penn fabrication m6900 spray adhesive on the dashboard and on the material.
I didn't do a step by step picture shoot.

I used acoustic carpet yes. Its easy to work with and forms nice into the curves and bends of the dash.
I cut the material to a rough close size and then trimmed it as I went.

Total spend was around £7 ;)

I was actualy considering buying one of these.

In the pulsar I have just bought the dash is cracked and damaged all over the place. I was going to get it flocked but there is only 1 guy who does it on the Isle of man and he charges around £110 a dash.

I might have a go at covering it myself, If I get round to pulling the dash out that is.
