Taking payment when selling a car

An advice for payment when selling a car out of office hours?

Would be nice to bank the money there and then, but if out of hours what’s the best course of action?

as red said. do the sale at your house, are they paying cash or cheque. if its cash make sure your check it carefully that they all look real and that it is all there.if possible have a twenty and fifty of your own to check against.
if they are paying by cheque then it is simple. they cant take the car till payment has cleared.

I've always used PayPal, but you all seem so scared of it.

Yes, you loose a bit in fees... but it clears instantly and you can then empty your PayPal account and let the keys go. - If the banking system was better here I'd suggest a bank transfer; in the rest of the world that's as quick as PayPal and costs less, but here it's as bad a bloody check because it takes days to clear.
